Why do we need probiotics?

When you’re in utero, you’re sterile i.e. you have no bacteria either in you or on you. During birth, as you exit, you collect bacteria from your mothers birth canal via your mouth which makes its way into your intestinal tract. Generally, over the first 2 years of your life, your body works out what good and bad bacteria will and will not remain, finally creating the ‘bacterial fingerprint’ you take into adulthood.

As you consume food which your body needs to grow and function, you’re essentially feeding both the good and bad bacteria at the same time.
